ONE MORE CHILD

Most of my friends especially the ones with two kids tell me their wives keep raising the suggestion of one more child.. Guy, raising a child in Nigeria and giving them a comfortable life till they leave University is about N40m.. half of that if you decide to 'manage'.

Let that sink in..a child shouldn't just be an emotional decision. What happens in the event of unplanned circumstances? If God has blessed you with two kids of the same sex, thank Him and love those kids. If you must have another one of the opposite sex, consider adopting an older child. That way everybody wins.

We do not live in our parents generation where it was easy to raise 6 kids. Most of us went to Govt Secondary schools. Right now with the world being so competitive we need to be deliberate with our kids. Most boarding houses do not have programmes for effective development of children. Apart from school education, they need to develop vocational, language and their sporting talent.

How many of us who went to boarding school can speak a foreign language, play a musical instrument, play tennis, squash, golf, etc? A child is an investment not an emotional decision and it is really hard work.

When I can I teach my kids basketball and football.. they are learning the 'no look pass' by Magic Johnson now.. I try to teach them the history of the move and how to execute it. It is hard work but that's what raising kids is all about.... that extra N40m is your house.. it is your retirement fund.

If you still feel like having more children, go visit an orphanage once a month and bond with the kids there. Peace, love..DM.
